US Lifts Sanctions on Fly Baghdad

The US Treasury has removed counter-terrorism sanctions imposed on Iraqi carrier Fly Baghdad in 2024 over alleged links to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force.

Fly Baghdad Airlines, Iraq Express and two Boeing 737 aircraft were removed from the Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals list after a review by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

A Treasury official said Fly Baghdad had made significant operational changes and addressed the conduct that led to the sanctions. No details were provided about the measures taken by the airline.

The official stressed that the decision did not represent a change in US policy towards Iran or the Revolutionary Guards and warned that the sanctions could be reimposed if necessary.
